State Sens. Daniel Biss and Julie Morrison (D-29th) filed legislation (Senate Resolution 1746) citing the Amtrak Hiawatha project and calling for a full environmental impact statement and study of freight impacts on communities where new tracks might be built. The resolution calls for national freight traffic routed through the Chicago area to find alternatives.
